SOLANO COLLEGE THEATRE ANNOUNCES ANYTHING GOES
RUNS APRIL 19 – MAY 5, 2024

March 15, 2024 — (Fairfield, CA) Solano College Theatre (SCT) is pleased to announce its spring musical Anything Goes, directed by SCT’s Artistic Director Christine Mani.

“It’s finally time for Solano College Theatre to revisit Anything Goes, after over forty years! This amazing show is a personal favorite of mine and is still driving audiences mad with laughter, love, and toe-tapping antics,” said Mani.

Anything Goes is a rousing musical set aboard the ocean liner S.S. American. This show tells the riotous story of nightclub singer and former evangelist, Reno Sweeney, whose pal Billy Crocker has stowed away to be near his love Hope Harcourt … who is already engaged to the wealthy Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. Joining this love triangle on board are Public Enemy #13, Moonface Martin, and her sidekick-in-crime Erma. With the help of some elaborate disguises, tap-dancing sailors, and good old-fashioned blackmail, Reno and Moonface join forces to help Billy in his quest to win Hope’s heart.

“Propelled by the breathtaking music of Cole Porter, this production combines the beauty of the 1930’s jazz-age classic with excitement that will entice all ages to come back for more,” said Mani.

This production features a new adventure into inclusion–student-actors will be interpreting the entire show into ASL as they perform. Two SCC students, Angelito Guevarra and Luna Swarner, will provide the ASL interpretation while onstage for every show.

Recently updated in 2022, this hilarious and heart-warming romantic comedy features Cole Porter classics like “I Get a Kick Out of You,” “It’s De-Lovely,” and of course the title song “Anything Goes.”

“The ‘Anything Goes’ number is full of tap dancing,” said choreographer Liz Andrews. “This is the most challenging number because there are many cast members with varying levels of experience, and with tap, it’s important to be completely in sync and sound like one.”

Andrews herself performed as Bonnie (now known as Erma) on the SCT stage in 1983. It was her first character role and kicked off a career in the arts.

“As a younger dancer, I was happy to dance and sing in the ensemble of any show I could get into,” said Andrews. “When I performed in this show I had no idea I would be back on the same stage so many years later, choreographing the same show. I love how life comes full circle.”

Anything Goes is directed by Christine Mani with musical direction by Michael Reilly and choreography by Liz Andrews. The design team includes Joanne Martin (Costume Design), Carrie Mullen (Set Design), and SCT alums Daymon Clark Jr. (Sound Design) and Conner Watson (Lighting Design). It runs April 19 to May 5 with Friday and Saturday shows at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m. There will also be a Thursday
evening show on April 25 at 7:30 p.m.
