Solano Community College Hosts Celebrated Journalist and Author Pati Navalta as Keynote Speaker for Filipino-American History Month, October 2022
Fairfield, CA – On Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at 12 pm, Solano Community College is honored to be hosting a FREE Book Reading, Discussion, and Q&A with Pati Navalta, author of The Oracles: My Filipino Grandparents in America. The event will be held at the Solano Community College Library (building 100), 4000 Suisun Valley Road, Fairfield, CA 94534. There will be free parking in lot 2.
Pati Navalta, a longtime Bay Area journalist and media and communications strategist, is Founder and President of Navalta Media. She served previously as editorial Writer and Columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle, where she was twice nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for an editorial series on foster care reform in California. This series led to landmark changes in foster care in the state, improving the lives of millions of foster youth.
In her second memoir, A Better Place, Pati shares the story of her painful journey towards healing from the loss of her son, Robby, to gun violence in 2014. To honor Robby, Pati founded The Robby Poblete Foundation in 2017 to advocate for an annual buy-back program to remove dangerous guns from circulation and convert them through arts and community programs into symbols of hope and opportunity.
Solano Community College welcomes all to attend this Book Reading, Discussion, and Q&A with Pati Navalta, discussing key topics and sentiments that celebrate Filipino-American History Month.
