What is CalWORKs?

CalWORKs is a federally mandated, state funded Welfare-To-Work program. The goal of CalWORKs is to support parenting students with transitioning from county public assistance to lifelong self-sufficiency through higher education.

About the SCC CalWORKs Program

The SCC CalWORKs Program faculty and staff are dedicated to serving our parenting students. We provide comprehensive case management and supportive services to our SCC CalWORKs students. We are committed to assist you with getting the services you need to help you achieve academic success, complete your educational goals, and open doors to new opportunities.

 

Our program works in partnership with Solano County Health and Social Services and other neighboring County Health and Social Services agencies to ensure your success. Together we offer 100% support, advocacy, counseling, childcare, transportation costs, work-study … and so much more.

 

Through our comprehensive network of resources, specialized workshops, individualized career and educational planning:

 

❖ SCC CalWORKs Program students earn Certificates of Achievement, Associate Degrees, and/or Transfer to a four-year University.

The Solano Community College CalWORKs Program welcomes you to our network of dedicated staff and comprehensive resources. We are committed to your individual growth, development, continuing education and job training.

We are organized to provide assistance and information to foster effective support, work force training and job search activities. Job-Direct training is presented via classroom instruction, conferences, seminars, individualized programs, labs, publications and other learning methods.

Your experience and training at Solano Community College will prepare you for the world of work, now and in the future. We invite you to meet our staff and let them assist you in developing your comprehensive educational plan. All training meets CalWORKs guidelines and those of the Solano County Health and Social Services Department.

To qualify for the SCC CalWORKs Program, you must …

  1. Receive cash aid benefits for yourself and at least one child through your County CalWORKs office.
  2. Receive a referral from your County CalWORKs office.
  3. Have a current Welfare-To-Work2 Plan (WTW2).

To maintain eligibility in the SCC CalWORKs Program, you must …

  • Keep your Student Education Plan (SEP) up-to-date.
  • Meet with the CalWORKs Counselor at least two (2) times each semester.
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress at the college (2.0 GPA or higher).

Your childcare costs are 100% covered:

✓ On-campus childcare services (SCC Early Learning Center)

✓ Community-based childcare services

Printer and copy machine available at no cost to you as a SCC CalWORKs Program student.

As a SCC CalWORKs Program student, the cost for your required textbooks and supplies are 100% covered.

❖  Personal and Confidential Counseling

❖  Develop an Ed Plans

❖  Referrals for on/off campus services

❖  Support and Advocacy with County CalWORKs offices

❖  Personal and Career Development Seminars and Workshops

We know sometimes childcare falls through. When you visit our office, we offer a friendly environment for your children with a kids’ play space. 

Laptop, mouse, and carrying case are available on loan to you as a SCC CalWORKs Program student.

Working professionals have donated clothes that are available to you at no cost to you as a SCC CalWORKs Program student.

Based on available funds, the SCC CalWORKs Program offers grants to our students.

Need a bookbag, calculator, notebooks, pens, highlighters, etc.? Our office will provide you with school supplies at no cost to you as a SCC CalWORKs Program student.

Our office offers required textbooks on loan to you as a SCC CalWORKs Program student.

As a SCC CalWORKs Program student, your roundtrip transportation costs to school are 100% covered.

SCC CalWORKs Work-Study program will not reduce your County cash aid!

  • Match you with an on-campus job while in school
