Welcome To Art History

Do you love the arts?

Looking for a creative career?

Do you research art in your spare time?

You're looking for Art History!

The Solano Community College Art History program teaches creative problem-solving, critical thinking, reading, writing, and research skills, as students study the painting, sculpture, architecture, and other art forms of different artists, cultures, and eras.

Art History students learn about a wide range of artistic styles, and explore how an artist’s cultural background, beliefs, and experiences influence the work they make. Students encounter the many facets of Art History, delving into controversial and challenging issues, and finding connections with a wide range of disciplines, including anthropology, archaeology, psychology, philosophy, ethnic studies, and social justice.  Students in the Art History program will also take hands-on studio courses to gain a deeper understanding of the creative process.

Students in the Art History program may complete transfer requirements to the CSU system and UC system, as well as public and private universities both in and out of California, to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Art History.

The faculty and staff of the School of Liberal Arts welcomes you to an academic area that encompasses the disciplines of Studio Art, Art History, and Digital Media Arts.

With access to an art gallery, state-of-the-art studios and Digital Media labs, and extensive research tools through the library, students have everything they need to be successful in a supportive, diverse, and creative environment.

The Art, Art History, and Digital Media Arts Departments are committed to providing quality programs and services toward developmental education, transfer degrees, and workforce development. Please contact us for any guidance or assistance about our programs, faculty or courses.
