Local Professor Awarded Grant to Launch Inaugural Dance Festival at Solano Community College
Fairfield, CA – Solano Community College (SCC) Dance, Kinesiology, and Health Education Professor, Ginger Cain has been awarded a grant of just over $3,550 to spearhead the development of the inaugural “Dance, Create, Collaborate” dance festival in May 2025.
The grant will enable Cain to develop a festival that aims to connect SCC with the Early College High School program on campus, local high schools, and Bay Area colleges. The festival will feature collaborations with community artists, providing students with a platform to engage in dance, choreography, and creative expression while fostering connections with the broader community.
Cain received this grant from the California Teachers Association (CTA) Institute for Teaching (IFT) initiative, which works to create better teaching and learning conditions in our public schools by promoting teacher driven change. Cain is one of 74 recipients of the grant in 2024.
“This grant is an incredible opportunity to bring a new level of artistic expression to our campus and the surrounding community,” said Cain. “With this funding, we can offer students a chance to showcase their talents and experience the joy of performance in a professionally supported environment.”
The grant will facilitate the festival’s comprehensive experience, including the use of a state-of-the-art theater with top-tier technicians, photographers, videographers, and lighting designers selected by Cain. It will also ensure that all cast members receive a professional digital or DVD recording of their performance, along with high-quality photographs.
The “Dance, Create, Collaborate” festival is designed to provide an inclusive and supportive environment, allowing students to connect with their peers and engage with the community. By focusing on student-centered opportunities, the festival aims to celebrate the art of dance and enhance the cultural fabric of the college and its surrounding area.
“I am incredibly proud of Professor Ginger Cain and her vision for the ‘Dance, Create, Collaborate’ festival,” said Dr. Kellie Butler, SCC’s Superintendent-President. “This award highlights the vital role of dance as a form of art expression that transcends language and fosters community engagement. It’s exciting to see Solano Community College faculty offer such transformative experiences for our students and local community.”
The “Dance, Create, Collaborate” festival will be held in May 9, 2025. For additional information, or if you would like to attend the festival, please contact Ginger Cain at ginger.cain@solano.edu.
