Solano College as host of the statewide student internship project for the Governor’s Office Department of Defense (DoD) California Advanced Defense Ecosystems & National Consortia Effort (CADENCE) (https://businessandentrepreneurship.net/cadence_info/) program will be participating in a CADENCE Showcase presentation panel at the 2022 CubeSat Developers Workshop (https://www.cubesatdw.org/cadence) at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo on April 29th. Charles Eason, Statewide Director for Business and Entrepreneurship, will participate on a panel along with the CEO and founder of Saraniasat which was one of the DoD companies that participated in the internship project and ended up hiring their student intern after the internship. The CEO of Saraniasat was the Program Manager on the first CubeSat ever flown (launched from the cargo bay of the Space Shuttle, STS-113 mission in December 2002).

Solano College is also host for a statewide Chancellor’s Office grant which includes several work based learning or experiential learning projects including the Nasdaq Entrepreneurial Center InternMatch (https://thecenter.nasdaq.org/internmatch/) project that matches community college student interns with early stage startup companies. Five faculty from around the state were recently selected to receive stipends to participate in the Nasdaq Entrepreneurial Center InternMatch project and act as faculty mentors to the student interns. Professor LaVonne Slaton, a FT business instructor here at Solano College, was selected to be one of the five faculty chosen to receive a stipend. She will be incorporating the “Think Like an Entrepreneur” curriculum from the InternMatch program into her summer and fall business courses. Students who complete the “Think Like an Entrepreneur” modules will be eligible to apply for the student internship opportunities through the InternMatch program.
