Course Description

8-week course (non-credit)

February 26 – April 16, 2022 (Saturdays only)

8 AM – 4 PM

Fairfield Campus 

This 8-week course is intended for the working nurse and involves once-a-week in-person didactic instruction, at-home online learning modules, video instruction, textbook guidance, and hands-on skills training. 

As part of this course, students will also sit for a nationally recognized Periop 101 examination approved by the Association of Perioperative Nurses (AORN). Upon successful completion of the exam and coursework, each nurse will have the opportunity to complete a preceptorship at a Solano County-based healthcare facility for up to 3 months. 

This is a non-credit course.

Prerequisites:
The following are required by the healthcare facilities administering clinical experience for this course and must remain active and valid throughout the duration of the class and preceptorship:

  • Current California Registered Nurse License
  • Current BLS (AHA) certification
  • Current negative PPD (TB test)
  • Current flu shot
  • COVID-19 vaccination (fully vaccinated including booster, if eligible)
  • Proof of vaccination or positive titer for the following:
    • Tdap
    • MMR
    • Hep B
    • Varicella

Applicants who do not meet the above healthcare facility requirements may be disqualified by the healthcare facility from participation in this course.

Application Fee: Waived. All applications will be entered into a randomized lottery. Enrollment in this course is limited to a maximum of 10 students. Applicants will receive notification of their admission status in early January 2022.

Course Cost: $2,500 (due upon notification of acceptance to the course). Covers cost of Periop 101 instructional materials, exam and preceptorship. Students are responsible for purchasing all required textbooks.
