Solano Community College’s Professor Peter “Tony” Zitko has won the Hayward Award for “Excellence in Education”! This award honors community college faculty who demonstrate the highest level of commitment to their students, college, and profession.

Professor Zitko teaches seven different political science courses at SCC. He was recently hired as the Interim Dean of External Programs where he will oversee the correctional education program and our dual enrollment program. Zitko has also been teaching in our SOAR program for five years. He demonstrates a commitment to serving students from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Professor Zitko’s students appreciate him and value his support; he has written 70 letters of recommendation for students applying to transfer to four-year institutions.

Whenever there is a call to serve, Professor Zitko is one of the first people to volunteer. Previously, he was selected as the Distinguished Part-Time Faculty of the year at SCC.

Zitko is a proud graduate from the California Community College system and he is committed to teaching at the community college level. He is currently teaching at multiple California Community Colleges.

In SCC’s opinion, Professor Zitko exemplifies what the Hayward Award stands for – “Excellence in Education.”

Congratulations on your distinguished award, Professor Zitko!
